A very happy new year!

Wishing everyone a very happy and exciting new year! 2009 promises to bring our family a big change, and one we couldn't be more thrilled or happy about.

We can't wait to meet you, baby Thor (nickname). We love you so much already.

As if our wonderful son wasn't enough to ring in the new year... I won a couple of prizes this week! A big THANK YOU to Thrifty and Chic Mom for the Lychee Cabrio Clutch, isn't it gorgeous?!

And another big THANK YOU to 1stopmom for the Cheeky & Swank Chic Thermal prize. Since we're having a boy, Latricia was kind enough to send this adorable thermal to my friend Erica, due with a girl in February.

Have a happy and safe new year!

See Kai Run Giveaway

Have you seen the cute shoes they have for kids these days?? It's incredible. They're as cool as adult shoes.

However, they can be pricey, especially considering how quickly they are outgrown. So, how would you like a chance to win a super cute pair??

See Kai Run have definitely made waves with their great designs and comfortable kids shoes.

You could win a pair of SKR shoes on Thoughts from the Mrs. blog! Oooh, how I hope I win!

Click here to read more and enter the giveaway, or copy/paste this URL into your browser: http://amyclary.blogspot.com/2008/12/another-see-kai-run-giveaway.html. Good luck!

Flip Ultra Giveaway

Have you seen the Flip Ultra video camera?

I'm in love with it. Small and compact, it's easy to stash in your purse for spur of the moment recording. It also has a built-in USB cable, so there's no hassle with uploading the videos to your computer.

It's something I know I would buy and use. As opposed to the larger cameras that probably sit in most people's closets and rarely come out for video taping life's best moments.

If you'd like to have a flip ultra too, head over to I Never Grew Up. Vanessa is giving one away on her blog, yay!

Just in time for Thor's arrival, and capturing all of his firsts.

xoxo,
L

Organic Baby Resource

I feel lucky to have so many organic choices for Thor, although the world and our economy still have a lot of changing to do. After first getting pregnant though, I had a lot of learning to do! Where does a new mom start??

One good place is the Organic Baby Resource. Tons of great info, organized by topics (nutrition, diapers, toys, baby showers, etc) based on your particular interest, and they offer monthly giveaways (score!).

This month's giveaway is for a full basket of Boon goodies! We love Boon, especially the sippy cup. I think Boon is so creative in their product development, and the fact that they're organic, awesome!

So, if you haven't checked out the Organic Baby Resource yet, head on over. While there, enter this month's contest for some Boon goodies!

Hottest Holiday Toys of 2008

The blogosphere is buzzing with gift guides, and Christmas Countdown Giveaways! If you haven't seen what I'm talking about, you must be living under a rock.

I love browsing the gift guides, seeing the various styles and tastes of each mom and especially reading opinions if they've used the toys/clothes/books/etc with their kids. Being a soon-to-be new mom, having honest mom reviews and resources for baby prep has been invaluable. A big 'thank you' to all you mom bloggers!

Today I read a post titled the Hottest Holiday Toys of 2008, and I thought they were right on target! At least, many of the toys fit with my taste and preferences. There were toys for the older kids and younger set, wooden/eco-friendly options, and some tried & true classic favorites.

I definitely encourage you to visit Mamanista's blog and check out her Hottest Toy guide. And while you're there, she's got a Christmas countdown happening, with lots of great giveaways! Happy shopping.

A cyber-shower! Fun

Sarah, from Sassyfrazz, is having baby #4 - awesome! And Pamela Kramer, from Happy Panda (love them!), is hosting a cyber-baby shower for her. I love cyber-parties. Ok, ok. I love ALL parties!!

I'll be playing a few of the shower games, and you can too (click on the cyber baby shower button above)! In addition to it being fun, you can also win prizes. Everyone loves prizes.

Game #1: Because we're due in January, I can only offer this recent picture of my husband and our bump... not sure that it counts, but I thought I would share anyway. It's my favorite and we were having such fun playing with the bump and bonding! I may be biased (ahem), but I think it's very sweet. xoxo

Photo taken by Amy Scherer

Game #2: Guess the birth weight... I'm going to say 9 pounds 2 ounces.

And because I have no play-doh (I'm sure that's going to change soon!), I'm going to skip game #3. But I cant wait to see the other entries!

My top prizes would be, in no particular order: See Kai Run, Paperlicious, Happy Panda, Cute Slings and Baby Banz.

Congratulations Sarah!

And... Mogul Baby is having a giveaway for a $25 gift certificate to Baby Sparewear! Yay.

Your Very Own Hospital Gown

Child Labor... It's magical, a miracle, wonderful and so very worth the pain. But there it is, there's pain. And you're in a hospital. It's not comfortable, you're feeling very unattractive, and being poked and prodded. But oh my, is it worth it!! And we can't wait to meet Thor in January (or February, if he's anything like his parents)!!

If you're a friend of mine, you're probably aware that I just spent a 'fun' afternoon at Swedish hospital a couple weeks ago. After having a small tear on my cervix, and my doctor worrying about it shortening, I thought I should get some 'pinching' feelings checked out. While the hospital staff are all very friendly, and they do all that they can to make you comfortable, you're still in a hospital. And this time around, I didn't have our sweet baby in my arms to cuddle and distract myself with (we dont want that to happen until January, he needs some more growing time!). Turns out, I had a UTI. Yay, no shortening of my cervix and not a big deal. Overall, the afternoon was a preview of our upcoming hospital stay.

If given the chance, I would love to do what I can to make my next hospital visit (hopefully, labor day!) as comfy as possible, and to focus on happy thoughts! So I'm thinking, as you walk around your hospital room and look in the mirror/window reflection, why not have your own hospital gown looking back at you? Something 300 other laboring mothers haven't worn, that doesn't smell like hospital, and that's pretty. Sign. Me. Up!!

Healthy Moms is giving one lucky soon-to-be-mom their own hospital gown from Labor Looks, and I think it's wonderful. What a fun gift, just for mom. A little something extra special (not a 'need', but a 'want') for a rough few hours of her life (which she's glad to go through, but is none the less a bit painful).

This will be our first baby, and I would love to win. Why? It's these extra special touches that make the lead-up time more exciting, the day-of more comfortable, and the after a cherished memory.

Thanks for the chance Healthy Moms!

Would you like to enter to win too? Click here

On one of the blogs I frequent regularly, but always want to read more often, they are hosting a See Kai Run shoe contest for the Carnival giveaway. You all know my SKR obsession by now. Organic Mattress @ Bellaziza's Favorite Things

Being eco-friendly has hit the mainstream and continues to go strong! Esp for us crunchy northwesterners.

But being 'organic' is not always easy... it usually means spending a bit more money. Understood. So, you prioritize what you will/can spend more money on. One of the biggest items for Thor that Tim and I have discussed buying organic and spending the money on, is an organic mattress. I don't care if I have to eat PB&J sandwiches for the next year to afford it, I will.

But, for one very lucky mommy (and baby!), they will win an organic mattress! Yay. Whether it's me or not, it's such a wonderful prize and I just know whoever wins it will love it.

If you want your chance to win (and if you dont need it, you can gift it to me- ha, ha!), head on over to Bellaziza's Favorite Things and enter. They always find the greatest stores and products, thanks ladies!!

Also, just wanted to mention that the mattress comes from the Netto Collection. Holy WOW! I love their products - great modern look, organic, made in the USA. I heart them.

Now hurry, head over to BFT and enter. You can enter once per day!

Free photo book

When I started our baby blog and mentioned that we were going to turn it into a baby book (eventually), a couple of you said that you plan to do that as well or already do. So, I thought you all might be interested in this current promotion for a free 120 page photo book (dont think it incorporates blog posts, but you can do 'baby's first year' in photos, or maybe a 2007-2008 family trips album, and I'm sure they allow photo captions - although I haven't looked into it yet, it's on my to-dos to sign up later this week).

If you're interested, read the below review, which includes the promo code and how to get your free photo book! (you do pay for shipping, $5 I think)

* You must sign-up by Oct. 24th and make the book within 1 month from your sign-up date.

The elusive...

...See Kai Run.

I see these shoes ALL over the blogosphere. You've heard of them, right? If not, go. Go now, and check them out! They're great little shoes, just as cool as mom and dads, but for little feet. I love them.

I don't think we're likely to buy a pair, unless they're used (you know I love craigslist). They can run a bit pricey, but you can also try to buy some new on sale or on amazon. I just keep hoping to win some. Our little man would rock these shoes!

Leading me to my next subject, a giveaway for a pair of See Kai Run Eleven shoes. Yay.

If you'd like to enter the giveaway, please click here to be taken to Red Sox Mommy's blog.

Good luck to both you and me!

Friends, I'm here to introduce you to the newest stroller on the blog to be offered up in a giveaway! Hip, hip hooray!! Some companies and blog owners are too generous, and for that, I heartily thank them. This is a wonderful prize, that no matter what, I am SURE will find a great home.

However, I'm hoping it's my home. No, no, just a good home will do! ha, ha.

In any event, Parents With Style is the location of the stroller giveaway. And it's not just any stroller - it's a chicco trevi double stroller. How cool!

Oh my gosh...

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, OH. MY. GOSH.

There's another quilt giveaway happening in the blogosphere right now. I hesitate to speak about it because I want to win. But being a kind person I am, and to get 5 extra entries, I'm going to share this gem of a secret with you!

Hi guys. I'm tagging along Tim's short business trip, so I haven't had time to do the Thor update/post yet. But it's on it's way!

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you a fun mom blog that just updated their look and that has a lot of great info on it.

The Full Mommy

Not only do they have a new look and are fun to read (so I suggest you run over there and take a peek), but they have a great giveaway right now for a Flip Ultra. 'Flip what', you ask? Tsk, tsk. A trendy, small video recorder for us on-the-go moms, so we can capture all the giggles, coos and diaper explosions for future blackmail. No, no, just kidding.

Baked

I know I post quite a bit about baby stuff, well, we're having a baby!

But you know I also love to cook. There's a great giveaway happening at Cupcakes Take the Cake, as part of an introduction and launch of a new book, called: Baked

It sounds fantastic, and I'm totally throwing my name in the hat to win a copy. Click here to read a review, hear from the writers and to enter the giveaway too. Good luck! And happy baking...

Rosepetal Cottage House Giveaway!

Since you all know we're having a boy, I am not promoting and entering this contest for me... it's going to go to a very deserving, happy home (but I'll leave you guessing, as to who I have in mind). My chances of winning are slim anyway, but you never know, fingers crossed!!

So what are the details of this giveaway I speak about? The who, what, when and where??

All you really need to know is, the giveaway is being hosted by Kristin at An Ordinary Life. Go! Go check it out!! And enter.

xoxo,

Flip, for the Flip-Ultra

I know, I know... the Thor post is coming. I promise!

But first: Do any of you read The Full Mommy? It's a fun blog with honest product reviews, contests, and personal opinions/stories. They also just changed and updated their look, so it's all sleek and pretty!

To celebrate their upgraded new look, they are hosting a giveaway for a Flip Ultra video recorder. I soooo want one of these. With Thor due in January, there are years and years of video recording ahead of us.

So, head on over to check out The Full Mommy. See what they have going on, and if you are so inclined, enter the giveaway.

Restaurant.com Gift Certificate Deal

I just bought a few gift certificates as 'thank yous' and for christmas presents and wanted to share...

Restaurant.com offers $10 or $25 gift certificates to restaurants in your area for a fraction of the price. A $10 GC costs you $3. A $25 GC costs $10.

There are usually 'conditions', so read carefully before buying. For example, a restaurant may not allow the gift certificate to be used during their popular weekend brunch, or it excludes alcohol, etc. Nothing unreasonable.

BUT, right now (through Oct. 12), use code DISCOVER and get an extra 50% off. So your $25 GC only costs $5!! Yahoo!

So buy, and eat away. This deal is too good to pass up!

Are you wondering what's going on with Thor? ha, ha. Sorry. Yes, we are still pregnant and an update will be coming soon! Maybe even a pic (wink, wink).

xoxo,
L

Hullabaloo Boutique

SKR

If you don't know what SKR stands for yet, man, oh, man... See Kai Run!

How I love these shoes. They are sooo cute! Great styles, for little feet. Who says our bambinos have to wear plain jane, when they can start showing some fun, funky, preppy, or sporty style in the first years? I love them.

And right now, at Does Mommy Love It?, they are hosting a giveaway for a SKR pair of your choice. Woo, hoo!

Be sure to enter. This soon-to-be-mommy definitely recommends it.

xoxo,

BabyLegs

Babylegs, babylegs, how I love you, babylegs!! Ok, ok. I'm silly.

But seriously, BLs are one of the greatest ideas and mom inventions on the market. In my opinion.

And lucky us, the Pitter Patter Boutique is offering us the chance to win a pair! My fingers are crossed. My toes are crossed. My eyes would be crossed, but that would give me a headache. Hurry over, and enter yourself for a wonderful pair of babylegs.

xoxo,

Jack & Lily Shoes

And there's more. The same blog, Simple, is giving away your choice of Jack & Lily shoes. Hip, hip, hooray!

Hurry over, the contest ends on October 10th! Click here.

Bugaboo Shoes

I was reading lists of 'must haves' for our baby registry, and making my own list of to-buys for little Thor. One of the 'do not buy' items from Metropolitan Mama was shoes under the age of 1. Smart, because I hadn't thought through the fact that the kids aren't typically walking before then, and probably dont need real shoes yet. You can likely get away with socks or going barefoot!

However, once they hit 1... and start using those feet... they're going to need shoes!

So, head on over to the Simple blog, they're giving away a pair of really cute Bugaboo shoes in winners choice of style (from 3 options) and color. Yay! I chose the max in black. How about you?

7 Habits of Happy Kids

Have you guys heard of this book?

It was written by the son of Steven Covey, who wrote The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I find father-son writers fascinating (another good father-son collection of books to read are The Killer Angels, and Gods and Generals- they're about the civil war, and really good! Not my typical chick-lit and I loved them). Anyway, I digress.

The Integrated Mother (great blog!) wrote a great review and support of 7 Habits of Happy Kids, and makes me want to run out to buy it. Thor wont need it for a few years, but those of you with 3-5 year olds might love it now (if you buy it, tell me how you like it!). You may also see it at our Secret Santa event this year... he, he.

Boo!

There are very few thing scarier to me than spiders... but I'm LOVING the mutsy spider.

And guess what, my friends? Sisters Amanda and Kristin are giving away a Mutsy Spider on their Sister Sister blog. Hooray!

Forget candy, we're in the big 'trick or treat' leagues now! Fingers crossed to win (for me or you, if you go enter).

250 Free Mommy Calling Cards

On PBP, they featured Vista Print, a company that offers free starter sets of various paper products.

Currently, under their FREE listings, are 'business cards'. They have lots of designs, and I found a couple I would definitely order once Thor arrives and we have an official name. You customize the card, so use them for business, or for mommy cards. They don't care.

As I clicked through, the only thing you pay for is the shipping (approx $5.50). 250 mom calling cards for $5.50, great deal!!

PBP also mentioned they give notecards and postcards away for free, but those aren't currently on offer.

Go check them out! Another thing getting me excited for Thor's arrival...

YGG: Jig

As you all will soon see, I've been having a big debate with myself over our registry. I have the customary items (bottles, butt paste, manicure set, etc) on there. But then there are the things I just flat-out want. I feel a little guilty over adding these items, so after adding them, I deleted them. But a few still remain, and I'm sure you'll know which ones they are! :)

One of the items I seriously contemplated putting on my registry, but didn't, was a custom onesie set from Jig. And guess what... Your Goodies Galore is offering a set as a giveaway!! With any luck, I'll win and have my much loved Jig set after all. A girl can dream, right?

If you'd like your chance to enter the giveaway and win a custom Jig onesie set, click here. Or copy/paste this URL into your browser: http://yourgoodiesgalore.com/?p=116#comment-86

Everything Minky

Have you felt the new minky fabric they have out for babies these days?? Oh. My. Goodness. I'm in love. It's the softest, best fabric I have ever felt, and the idea of tickling or wrapping up our bambino in it, is divine!

Well... Thrifty and Chic Mom blog is hosting a giveaway for a minky bunny. Oooh, how I have all fingers and toes crossed to win! Head on over there to win, and see what great minky creations her sponsor company (Whimsical Stork) has to offer. Oooh, la, la!

Making your own baby food

I am so excited about the idea of making our own baby food. If you know me, you know I love to cook. So this isn't a stretch for me. And from everything I've read, it seems so EASY!!

A recent blog post I read on making your own baby food (short & sweet, with steps and tips) was at Trying To Be Greener. Great starter information to tell and show you how easy it really can be.

Then, click on the Wholesome Baby Food link, and you are set!! I probably need another baby book, as I feel a little lost on what to do nutritionally, physically, learning, etc with Thor (our new nickname for the baby!) once he arrives... but Wholesome Baby Food takes a little of the unknown away with great food stage information on when, what and how to feed your baby. Yay! Just what I've been looking for.

Check both sites out! You wont be disappointed.

See Kai Run Shoes

Have you seen the cute shoes they have for kids these days?? It's incredible. They're as cool as adult shoes.

However, they can be pricey, especially considering how quickly they are outgrown. So, how would you like a chance to win a super cute pair??

See Kai Run have definitely made waves with their great designs and comfortable kids shoes.

You could win a pair of SKR shoes on Mustard Seeds blog! Oooh, how I hope I win!

Click here to read more and enter the giveaway, or copy/paste this URL into your browser: http://christina-mustardseeds.blogspot.com/2004/09/product-review-see-kai-run.html. Good luck!

Miracle blanket! Miracle blanket!

I have heard such good things about the Miracle Blanket, I have two on my registry. Swaddling a bambino has some great benefits, including easing fussiness and sleep. Restful baby means a restful mommy.

I found My Quest for Sanity (blog) only a couple days ago, and already have it on my to-reads! They also happen to be featuring a giveaway for... a miracle blanket. Oh, how I love them for that.

So if you are interested in learning more, and entering a giveaway for a miracle blanket AND soothing bedtime CD, click here. Or copy/paste this URL into your browser: http://myquestforsanity.blogspot.com/2008/09/baby-love-giveaway-4-miracle-blanket.html. Hurry, the giveaway ends tonight!!

HABA recall

I'm saddened to hear of problems with HABA's toys... they are one of my favorite brands to give as shower gifts, and that I had thought to buy for our baby. Not that I wont buy the brand again, but I'll certainly be more careful in the future.

Check out Hazelnut Kids Blog post to read about the most recent recalls.

If you haven't already done so, and you have children, I strongly encourage you to sign up for the Consumer Produce Safety Commission's recall newsletters/emails.

Organic Options

I feel very lucky to be having our baby during a time where eco-friendly companies/products and organic options are in abundance.

Something Snappy is featuring an organic cotton clothing company called Earth-Tots. What makes this organization even more special, in addition to their fantastic organic products, is that it was founded by two women. Way to go ladies!

If you'd like to find out more about Eco-Tots, Something Snappy's opinion of the products/company, and/or enter to win a giveaway from Eco-Tots, click here.

Sleep Habits, setting good ones!

I've been very interested in reading and learning about sleep habits for babies and toddlers lately. I've printed off A LOT of articles because I'm afraid once baby is born, I'll be in a haze and forget what I'm supposed to be doing and what I had planned. I am a believer in routines for kids, especially when it comes to sleep!

Click here for a great article I recently read on 5 sleep tips, and for a chance to win a blanket or sleep tip guide.

And you can get some additional baby/toddler sleep tips from Nicole at Pick Nicks Brain.

Sleep is a good thing. A very good thing!!

Boy vs. Girl

We are dying to know whether our cute bambino will be a boy or girl. No surprises for us, thanks!

Here's the breakdown based on old wives tales... we should find out at either our 18 or 20 week check-up. So stay tuned!

BOY:
I am carrying the extra weight out front.
I am carrying low.
Sleeping in a bed with my pillow to the north indicates that I will be having a boy.
I didn't have morning sickness early in pregnancy. (neither did my mom, and she had 3 girls and 1 boy)
My chest development has not been very dramatic during pregnancy, unfortunately. Although tim said otherwise this morning... maybe I'm just wearing baggy clothes and don't notice.
The sum of the mother's age at conception and the number of the month of conception is even.
I have been having headaches.

GIRL:
The hair on my legs is not growing any faster during pregnancy.
Tim hasn't been gaining weight along with me.
A needle on a thread held over my belly moved from side-to-side.
I am craving sweets.
My nose hasn't changed during pregnancy (can this happen?! yikes), which indicates a girl.
I have been craving fruits (I think this is the same as 'sweets', as it probably has to do with the sugar in fruit - but whatever, wives tales!).
I love to have orange juice daily.
My belly looks like a watermelon.
Lastly, according to a Chinese Gender Predictor, we are having a girl.

Week 15!

Holy toledo batman, we're at week 15. Just started the second trimester last week! Woohoo!

According to What to Expect When You're Expecting, the baby should measure about 4 1/2 inches and weigh about 2-3 ounces. Which is about the size of a navel orange.

I've been more tired this week and the doctor said that my iron counts were down, probably due to the baby being larger and growing, therefore stealing more of mommies nutrients! So I'm taking an iron supplement, and it doesn't have the best side effects. Oh well, all in the name of a healthy, happy bambino!!

Update

I'm nervous to say this, but I think I'm past the stage where it would hit me...

I've had NO morning sickness. (look left, look right. the sky has not fallen. hooray!)

Cross my fingers that everything else goes this smoothly! But, so far, baby and mommy (and daddy) are all doing great.
